Agave + Esse = the essential nature of the agave; the soul.

The Agavesse system offers a new way of growing agaves that connects the earth, livestock, and farmers in a holistic system of growth and abundance.

The Agavesse

System

Regenerative mezcal is an approach that we expect to become the benchmark when producing other agave spirits such as tequila, bacanora, raicilla, etc. Agaves are desert succulents that have long been central to Mexican culture, used by indigenous people for hundreds of years for sustenance, fibers for clothing, tools, fences, housing, and more.

We have created a revolutionary program that centers the agave as a force for semi-arid ecosystem regeneration, called Agavesse.

Regenerative mezcal can reverse climate change, create revenue for farmers, improve livestock health and reinvigorate our biocultural heritage.

By incorporating agaves into the keyline berm system for rainwater harvesting, we have established a symbiotic relationship between plants and water that revitalizes soil health. The contoured berms act as natural sponges, reducing evaporation and redirecting precious water deep into the bedrock.

These majestic plants are also incredible at sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. The pilot program shows the agaves will absorb about 95 tons of CO2 per hectare over the course of 10 years. When including other native plants like mesquite, Spanish oak and nopales, estimated sequestration could reach up to 150 tons per hectare.

Heritage & Dignity

I can’t think of another plant that can do as much as fast in desert ecosystems, so if managed right, agaves have the potential to make a tremendous impact in the world.
